January 2009 Ward History

(The following is what was submitted to the ward historian for the month of January 2009)

The young men started off the month with a combined activity with the young women on Wednesday the 7th.  We played a game where we got into a circle and quickly rolled a pair of dice.  If you got doubles you put on oven mitts and start tying to unwrap a chocolate bar that had duct tape wrapped around it several times.  After we discussed what activities the youth would want to do during the year for our combined activities.

The scouts had the opportunity to attend a Merit Badge POW WOW from 8:00 am to 10:30 am January 10th, 17th, and 24th.  Nate, Anthonee, Carl, Josh, Fisher, Keyen, Sean, and Taylor all received their three Citizenship merit badges.  Except Sean & Taylor already had Citizenship in the World so they worked on the Photography merit badge.

On Wednesday the 28th the Scouts had a board of review where several boys received rank advancements.  These advancements will be posted when they officially receive them at the Court of Honour.

On January 21st both parents and youth were invited to a stake fireside to kick off the Stake Youth Conference - Pioneer Trek.  The stake has outlined an extensive training program to be followed from February strait through to July.  It is to prepare the youth physically and spiritually for the trek as well as give them lots of information on the pioneers.  Youth not yet 14 years of age can still do the prep work called "Trail of Faith" and earn a medallion for their efforts.

On Sunday January 25th the following boys committed to go on the trek:  Taylor, Levi, Sean, Cameron, Jeff (Said he would try), Josh.  Anthonee and Nate committed to go through the "Trail of Faith" and earn the medallion.
